Hortons strikes EV charging deal at Birchley Island Retail Park
28 March 2024
Hortons’ Estate Limited has announced the opening of a new ultrafast electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at a multi-let retail destination in the West Midlands.
bp pulse will operate the 300kW chargers at Birchley Island Retail Park in Oldbury, off the busy Wolverhampton Road, near Jct 2 of the M5.
The new hub was created by The EV Network, partner of bp pulse. It is capable of charging up to 12 EVs at once and further enhances the visitor experience at the retail park.
Birchley Island Retail Park was opened in May 2022, following Hortons’ successful redevelopment of the former Oldbury Toys ‘R’ Us site. It is fully let to JD Gyms, Swim!, B&M, McDonalds and a standalone Tim Hortons drive-thru restaurant.
Richard Walker of Hortons said: “Birchley Island is a highly accessible retail destination, which benefits from high traffic flow. We undertook a very competitive bidding process with prospective operators which led to The EV Network securing this location. The addition of EV charging facilities will greatly benefit existing customers and has the potential to attract new visitors to our parks.”
Birchley Island Retail Park was marketed by Simon Smith of Wright Silverwood.
