140-mile Ironman challenge completed in support of Promise Dreams

Hortons colleagues have completed an Ironman-inspired fundraising challenge for Promise Dreams, covering more than 140 miles in support of the charity.

The final stage saw the team complete a 26.2-mile marathon walk around Birmingham, following a 2.4-mile open water swim and a 112-mile cycle ride from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury.

Despite soaring temperatures, the team followed Birmingham’s canals and waterways during the final stage before crossing the finish line. The three-part challenge was completed in support of Promise Dreams, which creates special memories and experiences for seriously and terminally ill children and their families.

Nina Meeks of Hortons said: “Seeing everyone cross the finish line was a proud moment. Every person who took part gave everything they had, and the determination shown throughout each stage of the challenge has been fantastic.

“We’re incredibly grateful to our contractors and suppliers who supported us from start to finish. Promise Dreams relies entirely on fundraising and donations to provide priceless experiences for seriously and terminally ill children and their families, so every penny raised through this challenge will help make a real difference.”

The Ironman challenge concludes a series of fundraising activities that have taken place over the last 12 months in support of Promise Dreams, including Hortons’ charity quiz night earlier this year, which brought together 175 property professionals at The Indian Brewery in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

Nikki Yeomans, charity manager at Promise Dreams, said: “We feel incredibly privileged to have been chosen as Hortons’ charity of the year, and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported fundraising throughout the partnership.

“Watching the teams take on the Ironman Challenge over three consecutive weekends was truly inspiring. We were overwhelmed by their determination, resilience and unwavering commitment as they pushed themselves to their physical and mental limits, all with one goal in mind – to make a difference to children and families facing some of the most difficult times imaginable.

“On behalf of Promise Dreams, and the families we support, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Hortons, along with their contractors and suppliers, whose generosity and support are helping us create precious memories for children and families when they need them most. Together, you are making a truly life-changing difference.”

Anyone wishing to support the fundraising effort can still make a donation via the Hortons JustGiving page.
