Hortons appoints Sam Carney to lead estates management team

Hortons has strengthened its property team with the appointment of chartered surveyor Sam Carney as head of estates management, alongside three further appointments across the business.

Carney joins from JLL, where he led property management functions for a range of diverse portfolios. His experience spans the retail, industrial and office sectors, including the onboarding and management of assets within Birmingham’s Paradise development.

At Hortons, he will oversee a property portfolio spanning c.6 million sq ft, with assets valued at almost £400 million, aligning day-to-day operations with the business’s wider asset management and growth ambitions.

In addition, James Yearsley joins as building surveyor, bringing experience in both consultancy and client-side roles to Hortons’ building surveying function. Further appointments include Aasa Thomas as utility manager and Azra Mughal in the purchase ledger team.

Industrial and logistics property accounts for more than 60% of Hortons’ portfolio. The business has completed more than £30 million of industrial and logistics acquisitions over the past 12 months, alongside continued investment in the management, regeneration and development of its existing portfolio.

Steve Benson, chief executive of Hortons, said: “Sam brings experience across several property sectors, which will be valuable in overseeing estate management across our portfolio. We’re pleased to welcome him and our other new colleagues, whose skills and experience will greatly support the wider business.”
