Hortons’ hosts first AGM at refurbished The Grand Hotel

Birmingham-based property company, Hortons’ Estate Limited has held its 70th annual general meeting at The Grand Hotel, the Grade II* listed building developed by its founder.

The independent company, owned by the Horton family, hosted an AGM dinner for more than 120 shareholders and invited guests at the newly refurbished hotel in Birmingham city centre.

Following the meeting, guests enjoyed drinks and canapes in the Hortons Bar before a celebration dinner in The Grand Ballroom, which included a keynote address by Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street.

Guests were also presented with a commemorative booklet by Hortons’ chairman, Peter Horton, which celebrates the restoration of this famous building.

The event raised £4,000 for the neonatal unit at Birmingham’s Women’s Hospital through personal donations and corporate match funding. Hortons’ has chosen the unit as its charity of the year and has committed to raising funds through a series of events during 2022.

Originally built by Isaac Horton in the late 19th century, The Grand Hotel has undergone a £45 million restoration and refurbishment which took 30 months to complete.

The project has preserved the building’s French Renaissance exterior, while its internal decoration pays homage to Birmingham’s rich history, but with a modern twist.

Jane Phillips of Hortons’ said: “We were thrilled to be back at The Grand Hotel for this year’s AGM. It was the first time that many of our shareholders have stepped inside the building since its refurbishment and it is of course even more poignant given the hotel’s connection to the Hortons family. The event was particularly well attended and we are delighted that it gave us the opportunity to raise a significant sum of money for the neonatal unit at Birmingham’s Women’s Hospital. Our thanks go to The Grand Hotel’s general manager, Peter Kienast and his staff for their wonderful hospitality.”
