Hortons’ serves up Dig Brew Co letting at Piccadilly Arcade
27 July 2022
An award-winning craft brewery is opening a new taproom in Birmingham city centre this week, landlord Hortons’ Estate Ltd has announced.
Dig Brew Co is launching its ‘lemonade stand’, a new pop-up venue at Piccadilly Arcade opposite Birmingham New Street, in a unit previously occupied by Petals of Piccadilly.
The craft brewery, which is known for its quirky cartoon horror and sci-fi branding, will offer a takeaway service and give consumers the chance to sample from a wide range of freshly brewed pale ales, IPAs, and sours, including Potion, OPTIMO and its newly launched Mexican-style lager, Cancun.
It plans to open the new pop-up taproom seven days a week, with the potential for a future long-term lease agreement with Hortons’.
Dig Brew Co was founded in 2017 by Slade Art School graduate, Oliver Webb, who spent five years running portable cocktail bars before establishing a taproom and dough kitchen in River Street, Digbeth.
The brewery has created in the region of 250 different beers since inception and brewed more than two million pints, with exports to countries including Australia and Japan. It employs ten staff.
Oliver Webb said: “We’re really excited to be launching our new pop-up taproom at Piccadilly Arcade. This is a natural extension of what we’re already doing in Digbeth, in producing and selling creative and freshly brewed beer. A city centre shop front gives us the chance to put ourselves in front of a much broader range of people, with Birmingham 2022 providing the perfect springboard to get us up and running.
“We’re very much building the concept as we go, with lots of ideas including a cool, relaxed bar upstairs. Our intention is to agree a long-term plan with Hortons’ and to eventually open other satellite sites in various locations.”
Jeremy Boothroyd of Hortons’ said that Dig Brew Co was an exciting addition to Piccadilly Arcade that would complement its existing tenants.
He said: “We’re really pleased to have attracted another dynamic, independent business to Piccadilly Arcade. Dig Brew Co has already proven to be a huge success in Digbeth and has built a loyal following across the globe. The unit offers a fantastic location just yards from the station and this is the first time it has been vacant in more than 35 years. We’ll be working closely with Oli and his team to support them with ambitious plans for the development of the new taproom.”
The letting is the second to be secured by Hortons’ at Piccadilly Arcade in the last few weeks, following the arrival of bubble tea outlet, i-TEA on a ten-year lease. Just two units remain available for occupation, including a 10,984 sq ft space at the New Street end of the arcade, formerly occupied by Cotswold Outdoor.
